My second brewery visit in Springfield, IL, was to Anvil & Forge, just a few blocks away from the Bomb that is Buzz. And when I had mentioned that the two breweries were friends in my other post, I didn’t expect to get a tour of the second brewery from the owners of the first brewery. Yep, that’s Bill from Buzz Bomb and his awesome wife, Ann, showing me the incredible space and flexibility that A&F has, not only as far as events and indoor cornhole, but CHECK THAT STILL!
The technology afforded to those who can foot the bill on equipment like this makes for some incredible beers, and I will attest to sampling as many as I could. That Hazy Midwest Sunrise gave me a moisture I’ve never known. Not only was the owner of this place, John, hilarious and approachable, the combined energy from both brewery owners tells me all I need to know about the Springfield brewery scene and its gradual erection as one of central Illinois’ coolest new beer centers.
Forget the fact that Springfield is notorious for shifty politics, the beer in this town is lish and the people brewing it are happy to talk beer with anyone, especially fellow geeks like me. Loved me some Springfield. The next day I needed some Advil & Pork from all of the sampling at Anvil & Forge, tho. MOISTURE, Y’ALL. - Joel
