My dad used to go to The Airliner in Iowa City, back when he was a student. He told me we should stop by when in town, so we did just that! This place opened in 1944, and it’s still kickin’ with students and dorks like me, even during the summer months. In order to celebrate me reliving my dad’s 20s, I shuffled up to the bar and ordered a Hawktoberfest by Backpocket. A Märzen by Iowans in celebration of the Iowa Hawkeyes is fine by me. Even though I went to a different, smaller, private university that I very much hate and probably should have gone here instead even though I definitely would have partied too much and possibly flunked out. So, the beer. It’s not my favorite Märzen of all time, but who actually remembers their favorite Märzen of all time? It was sweet-ish and spring-summery as it should be.
