Things to Include in Your Weekly Game Night

by Sean Paul ·

Game nights are popular for several reasons. For one, they provide an excellent opportunity to socialize with your friends. They also allow you to participate in fun and light-hearted activities, giving you just enough room to be competitive. And regular game nights also help establish a weekly routine.

Here are a few game night essentials you need to focus on when it’s your turn to host.

Game Choice

Let’s start with the obvious: the game choice. There aren’t any hard and fast rules about the types of games you can include in your event. You can opt for indoor games, outdoor activities, or a mix of both. For instance, you and your friends can spend the day playing basketball. Alternatively, your game night can include a bunch of indoor board games, card games, or video games.

It’s best to decide the game(s) you and your guests will be playing beforehand so that everyone comes prepared accordingly. Choose activities your guests are interested in to ensure nobody feels bored while playing games or feels at a disadvantage. You can always ask for suggestions and input before finalizing things, and you can even arrange for backup activities just in case.

The next thing you need to focus on is accommodation. This is especially important if you’re arranging outdoor games, but it also applies to indoor activities. It’s your responsibility as the host to ensure that there’s enough space for everyone to participate in the chosen activities. If you’re arranging the game night at your house, make sure the games can be easily played at the premises and that you can accommodate everyone on the guest list.

While large groups allow for greater participation and large-scale activities, they’re also more difficult to organize. Similarly, small groups are easier to accommodate but can limit your gaming options. Thus, make sure you’re considering the number of people who’ll be attending the game night and the space needed for a particular game before sealing the deal.

Snacks & Drinks

No game night is complete without snacks and drinks! Whether you’re playing a bunch of board games in your living room or participating in outdoor activities in your backyard, yummy food is a game night essential you just can’t ignore.

Choose a couple of snacks that are easy to arrange, serve, and eat. For instance, potato chips and dips, sandwiches, chicken wings, sliders, and pizza are great game night options. Pair the food with some local craft beer and sodas, and you’re good to go!
